Complex Grief Disorder
Losing someone we love, or even a part of ourselves, can be an incredibly painful experience. But grief is also a part of life, and with time and healing most people can adapt to their grief and eventually move forward.
But sometimes the experience of loss is such a destabilizing force, that it incapacitates our ability to recover. This is complicated grief. The enduring nature of complex grief disorder might include persistent symptoms of depressive or obsessive rumination, emotional self-regulation difficulty, excessive avoidance behaviors, and substance use complications.
But with human connection and the right kind of support, we can begin to heal the debilitating impact that grief has had on our lives. Ultimately enabling us to redefine our relationship to what has been lost. And to gain clarity about what our hopes and plans are for the new, altered future.
